INCREASING AWARENESS
GENERAL INFORMATION

Increasing Awareness
The Colorado Coalition for the Medically Underserved is committed to helping individuals and families access to quality, timely, and affordable health care. Although CCMU primarily focuses on achieving these goals through policy development and advocacy, we are happy to serve as a resource for individuals when we are able. This section includes links to other web sites that provide more comprehensive information for people looking for medical services.

Do you need help?
If you are in need of medical care or are looking for health coverage programs, we invite you to visit the following sites for information.

Colorado Consumer Health Initiative Report: Connecting Care and Health in Colorado
This PDF file provides a comprehensive picture of medical services, public health coverage programs, and privately-subsidized insurance options for low-income families. The report includes information on available insurance and medical care options, general information on who qualifies for public programs, and information on services other than health care. In addition the report includes a comprehensive contact list for those seeking medical care and coverage, including:

  • County Departments of Social & Human Services
County offices are responsible for managing enrollment into public health programs and serve as a resource for information on government-supported services.

  • Safety Net Providers by County
Safety Net providers offer medical, mental, and dental care to the uninsured on an income-based, sliding fee scale or for a nominal copayment.

Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Finance (HCPF)
The Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Finance manages administrative aspects of government-supported public programs, such as Medicaid, the Colorado Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+), and the Colorado Indigent Care Program (CICP). HCPF’s website provides application information, locations that provide application assistance, and medical assistance sites.

Other Services
Colorado Department of Human Services (DHS)
The Colorado Department of Human Services provides a searchable database of all public service programs by county, need, and agency.

Social Security Administration
Seniors over 65 and those with disabilities may have the opportunity to secure medical and living assistance through programs administered by the Social Security Administration and the Medicare program.

Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE)
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment oversees all aspects of public health and environment programs and the administration of county offices. Their website provides significant information about public programs that extend far beyond health care.
